In our biblical tradition, we affirm God as creator and Jesus as the redeemer of life; and we have a prophetic obligation to promote the well-being of the whole earth community; we also recognise the link between the health of the earth and of those who are poor.
With the increasing destruction of God’s creation and with rapid climate change, our future is at stake, and that urgent action needs to be taken.
Because of this , a motion was passed unanimously at synod to do the following:
- Encourage each pastoral charge to celebrate the Season of creation on a yearly basis.
Just as we celebrate the birth of Christ at Christmas, or the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, we are encouraged to celebrate the work of God the Creator during the Season of Creation. This is part of world wide movement of Gods spirit around the globe as more and more churches recognise our God given responsibility to care for our world. The Season of Creation can be celebrated at any time of the year, but it is suggested that it be celebrated in September culminating in St. Francis day. It can be celebrated with one day , or a month, or a few Sundays, depending on the parish.
-Form a Diocesan Environmental Group
