Archbishop Thabo leads confirmation service at St Cyprian's School

The Archbishop of Cape Town, The Most Reverend Thabo Makgoba, paid his first official visit to St Cyprian’s School in Oranjezicht, on Sunday 16 August to lead the Confirmation service of three senior school learners. The Archbishop is the head of the Anglican Church in Southern Africa, which spreads across six countries: South Africa, Angola, Mozambique, Swaziland, Lesotho, Namibia and the Island of St Helena.

Jazzara Pienaar (Grade 12), Jayde Bolton (Grade 11) and Cleo Marie Meyer (Grade 8) were prepared for Confirmation by the School Chaplain, the Revd Natalie Simons-Arendse. The service was attended by Mrs Sue Redelinghuys, Head of St Cyprian’s School, together with members of the school community, friends and family of the candidates, as well as members of the interfaith community.

The Archbishop also blessed the newly constructed extensions to the school’s Foundation Phase classrooms, sprinkling Holy Water and offering special prayers of protection to all who teach and learn at St Cyprian’s School. The extensions form part of the ‘Creating Future Leaders’ project, a major initiative to further develop the infrastructure of St Cyprian’s School to meet the demands of a progressive 21st century school.
